Professional Life

Steve has over thirty years experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist, and has been working in training and supervision roles since 2003. Steve spent his first twenty years of practice in non-government agencies in Perth, working with individuals, couples, families and groups in the areas of relationships, addiction, domestic violence and family of origin issues. Steve has specialized in working with couples since the mid 90s, and works predominantly through a systemic, emotion focused, attachment lens. Steve has been in private practice for the last ten years working mainly with couples, supervision and training.

Steve taught for ten years in the Master of Counselling program at ECU in Perth and Singapore. Steve has been a trainer within the Graduate Diploma of Couple and Family Therapy at the William Street Family Therapy Centre for the past 17 years.

Steve is a clinical member and supervisor of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), and a clinical member of AAFT (Australian Association of Family Therapy). Steve is a past Ethics Chair of PACAWA.

Supervision Background

Steve began working as a senior supervisor at Relationships Australia in 2003, providing supervision to clinical staff and Masters students on placement, and providing agency training in couple therapy and domestic violence.

At the William Street Family Therapy Centre Steve has had extensive experience in providing live supervision to trainees working in the Low Cost Family Therapy Clinic offered as part of the William Street Graduate Diploma training.

Steve currently provides individual supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, and other health professionals, and provides group supervision within a number of non-government agencies.

Steve is an Advanced Level Graduate of the Supervision WA training course, completing the course a second time as Auxiliary Trainer, prior to formally joining the training faculty as a Principal Trainer.
